On Sunday, September 21ST from 11:00am – 6:00pm, Folsom Street Events’ annual Folsom Street Fair presents a consistently exciting line-up of musicians and DJs. This year, we aim to present a broad presentation of alternative music with ‘a little something for everyone’ from power punk to hip-hop and electronic to indie. Folsom Street Fair presents a tour de force of live acts that will appeal to its queer audience, pairing alternative music with alternative sexualities. This year’s main stage headliners are MNDR, Monarchy and Austra.

Austra is Katie Stelmanis (lead vocals), Maya Postepski (drums), Ryan Wonsiak (keys) and Sari & Romy Lightman (backing vocals). Although it was only two years between Austra’s 2010 debut Feel It Break and the follow up LP, Olympia, the sophomore album presents a quantum evolution in the Toronto-based band’s sound, structure, and style. Though Olympia is filled with electronic and synthetic sounds that represent everything from Trax Record classic cuts to Yazoo’s Upstairs at Eric’s, it’s free of programming and loops. Everything was played live by the band in the studio. Fundamentally a dance album, Stelmanis says “this is the album where we discovered rhythm.”

Monarchy are Andrew Armstrong and Ra Black, having formed the band back in September 2009. Their debut performance was at Cape Canaveral in Florida, and was transmitted into space, making them the first band to be broadcast live into space. Since then they have gone on to perform at Coachella, Love Box, The Big Chill, Melt Festival, and Folsom Street Fair, and all around the world. They have remixed the likes of Kylie, Kelis, Lady Gaga, OMD, Ellie Goulding, and many more. Album number two, the follow up to Around the Sun is close behind, featuring “Living Without You” (out now on iTunes and Beatport).

MNDR is the synth pop music project of New York-via-Bay Area noise artist Amanda Waner with producer Peter Wade. Since the release of the debut album Feed Me Diamonds, MNDR has been an unstoppable songwriting and performance force. Amanda has appeared on stage at “Late Night with David Letterman” to this year’s Coachalla Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA. She’s also racked up songwriting credits on Kylie Minogue’s new album with the track “Les Sex.”

Joining the headliners on the main stage are up-and-coming artists from around the world and here at home. They include: Zbörnak (SF); MicahTron (Oakland); The Younger Lovers (Oakland); Double Duchess (Oakland); and, Bright Light Bright Light (UK). Ghetto House Radio will serve as the Main Stage DJs.

Headlining the Magnitude Dance Area are circuit legends, Tony Moran and Tracy Young.
