Folsom Street Fair Women's Area

From the fair's opening hour of 11am through Folsom's climax men strut their hard leather stuff and have since the fair's inception. Now another population is showing up in greater numbers year after year. These are the leather women of the Folsom Street Fair. They come in tight-laced motorcycle boots and strappy sandals, precarious stilettos and well-worn tennis shoes. As diverse as the footwear may be, they all share a common need: a space to call their own, where they can rest their tired feet in the shade, meet other women, and play in safety.

For the first time, Folsom Street Events, The Exiles (the largest women's leather organization in the Bay Area), and the women's leather community came together in 2006 to create a hot, safe space for

women in the heart of the Folsom Street Fair. Ninth Street became their turf, and they created a sexy and fully equipped dungeon in a large tent surrounded by a welcoming social area. Photographs above by Shilo McCabe ©2006.

Venus' Playground

This year the women's area, dubbed Venus' Playground, will return to Ninth Street between Folsom and Howard [See Map]. Within the women's area all individuals who identify as female in the past, present, or future are welcome. While we are still busy finalizing plans, we hope to include:

A reception area for Women and their friends of all genders
An educational area
A sitting area to relax
A Demo Dungeon where you can learn about your favorite kink
A Play Dungeon where you can enjoy your fantasies

Call For Volunteers

We are looking for women to fill the following specific positions:

Sponsorship Coordination Assistant (works with Sponsorship Coordinator to get sponsors. Will likely train to take over the position as Sponsorship Coordinator next summer, just before Folsom)
Fundraiser Coordinator (plans fundraising events)
Board Associate/Women's Area Treasurer (works with the Folsom Board)
General volunteers to help with Event Planing, Sponsor Solicitation, Public Relations, Graphics Artists and other media specialists, Outreach (with a focus on groups that are underrepresented in the women's leather community)
Logistics and Coordination of a zillion other things
