Heklina is the hostess, producer, and creator of Trannyshack. She has gained fame as Trannyshack’s erstwhile MC, keeping a tight rein on the chaos with her unflappable humor and sparkling wit. When not busy running the club with an iron heel, she is a popular hostess for hire around the City. She has graced Folsom Street Fair, Castro Street Fair, Gay Pride Main Stage, Castro Theater, and Halloween Main Stage, among others too numerous to mention. In addition to this lineup, she has been a tireless fundraiser MC, hosting benefits for PAWS, Project Open Hand, Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic, BAY Positives, LYRIC, AIDS Emergency Fund, UCSF Positive Health Project, Community United Against Violence, and Marriage Equality. She has been seen on the E! Entertainment Network, VH1, Playing it Straight, Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” BBC Television’s “Around the World in 80 Raves,” Scissor Sisters’ “Filthy Gorgeous” video, and as a guest on Jerry Springer and Ricki Lake.
Heklina was voted Community Grand Marshal of the 2004 San Francisco LGBTQ Pride Parade, and, most recently, was the subject of two documentaries in the 2005 Frameline SF Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. One of these, the comprehensive Trannyshack documentary, has been playing film festivals around the world.
