FOLSOM STREET FAIR – JUST THE TIPS…

Main Gates
We encourage you to enter at our Howard gates. In particular, we have plenty of volunteers and The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence ready to welcome you at Howard and 9TH, Howard and 10TH or Howard and 11TH. Those are the fastest and easiest gates from which to enter. Or, try any of our Harrison Street gates.

Sunscreen and Medical Attention
The forecast for Sunday is sunny and hot! We offer free sunscreen on the north side of Folsom Street between Dore and 10TH Streets. Donations are accepted and appreciated. If you or a friend needs medical attention, look for Security and ask for help. They can get you to medical assistance much faster than 911. We have a full medical team and ambulances on site.

Security
There will be bag checks at our gates. We ask that you not bring glass bottles, cans or weapons of any kind into the fair. Please account for a slightly slower-than-normal entry into our fair as we help to ensure a safer event. We encourage you to bring as little as possible. Additionally, if you see something, say something! We have plenty of volunteer Security roaming the fairgrounds; just look for the orange vests for assistance.

Nudity and Coat/Clothes Check
Nudity is still legal within the fairgrounds, but ONLY within the fairgrounds. Please come dressed, and if you’d like to check any of your clothes, you can do so at either of our two coat checks (one on 10TH Street north of Folsom and one on 12TH Street south of Folsom). Please be sure to pick up your items by 6:00pm when the fair shuts down completely!

Transportation
We encourage you to take public transportation including Muni and/or BART or maybe even walk or bike. Please do not drive, if you can help it. There is a lot of traffic around the fairgrounds with very few places to park. Alternatively, we have two taxi stands at 8th and Folsom as well as two Homobiles stands (Howard at 10th, Harrison at 12), and a Lyft pick up and drop off zone on 12th at Howard. Under no circumstances should you drink and drive. We have a bicycle check on 12th Street south of Folsom, thanks to the SF Bicycle Coalition.

Water Bottles
With the new plastic water bottle ban in effect, we encourage you to bring a durable/reusable water bottle. We have special WATER ONLY lines at each of our beverage booths so you can fill up quickly and cheaply.

Know where to go
Check out this easy-to-use fair map for the locations of major features of the fair. We also have a handy entertainment line up roster here.

FOLSOM STREET EVENTS REVEALS STELLAR MAIN STAGE PERFORMANCES AT FOLSOM STREET FAIR

Dragonette, YACHT and ADULT. to co-headline Main Stage of world’s largest fetish event

On Sunday, September 25TH from 11:00am – 6:00pm, Folsom Street Events’ annual Folsom Street Fair presents one of the hottest three-way headliner line-ups ever. The nonprofit event producers will showcase some of the most stellar music from synth pop and electronic to indie and house. Folsom Street Fair presents a tour de force of live acts that will appeal to its queer audience, pairing alternative music with alternative sexualities. This year’s main stage headliners are electronic and indie dance dynamos: Dragonette, YACHT, and ADULT.

Dragonette. It’s been nearly four years since Toronto-based leftfield popsters Dragonette put out a full-length album – an eternity in Pop years. Though they’ve hardly been idle in that time.

Dragonette-2015-by-Mackenzie-Duncan-2

The touring around the 2012 LP “Bodyparts,” coupled with their smash collaborations with French DJ Martin Solveig, saw them almost constantly continent-hopping, sometimes swinging from Paris to Manila in a single weekend. They did tours of the US with Major Lazer, Miike Snow and The Presets, played to a packed mid-day tent at Coachella, and graced festival stages on five continents.

After a bit of depressurization, the band collaborated with top-flight electronic music producers from across the planet, including Dutch producer Mike Mago, US beatmaster Big Data, and Swedish hit-makers Galantis. All this work with other people has provided fresh fuel for the Dragonette mothership. They’re currently putting the finishing touches on their as-yet-untitled fourth album, and “Let The Night Fall” and “Lonely Heart” are a first taste of that work.

YACHT_4-2

YACHT. Just the facts: YACHT lives in and champions the city of Los Angeles, CA. YACHT’s core members are Jona Bechtolt (pronounced John-uh Beck-tolt) and Claire L. Evans. YACHT’s new album is called “I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler.” The album was produced by Jona Bechtolt & Rob Kieswetter. YACHT signed to Downtown Records in late 2014. YACHT’s last two critically acclaimed LPs (“Shangri-La,” “See Mystery Lights”) were released by seminal New York City label, DFA Records. Rob Kieswetter has been a close collaborator since YACHT’s inception.

YACHT have created and sold unplayable compact discs, published a philosophical handbook, designed a sunglasses collection, created a fragrance, campaigned against NSA surveillance, and given presentations about their work in art museums, tech conferences, and rock clubs. Claire and Jona are the co-founders of an app called 5 Every Day that suggests five interesting things to do in LA every day.

ADULT1-2

ADULT. Detroit’s electro-punk phenomenon ADULT. (Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller) began their unpredictable path with one now totally obscure 12” (“Modern Romantics”). In 2001, with the release of “Resuscitation,” their first compilation album, ADULT. started playing more shows than ever as well as remixing artists.

After two more 12”s and their first limited edition 7”, ADULT. delivered their second album “Anxiety Always” in 2003. Following its release, ADULT. embarked on their first “proper” US and European tour. Successive releases such as “Gimmie Trouble,” “Why Bother?,” and “The Way Things Fall” have cemented the band as a formidable act with remarkable artistic output. Currently, the band is working on a new release, “Detroit House Guests,” with the likes of Shannon Funchess (Light Asylum) and Douglas McCarthy (Nitzer Ebb) – both Folsom Main Stage alumni.

These stages are named after the two popular Folsom parties that take place during the same weekend. Headlining the Magnitude Dance Area are circuit DJs Russ Rich, Josh Whittaker, and fan favorite Alex Acosta with a live performance by Vernessa Mitchell. FOLSOM STREET EVENTS ANNOUNCES EXCITING PLANS FOR ITS SIGNATURE, OFFICIAL DANCE PARTIES

Bay of Pigs and Magnitude set to receive upgrades in honor of party anniversaries

This year marks the 10TH annual Bay of Pigs and the 20TH annual Magnitude. In celebration of these two landmark events, Folsom Street Events is going live with early ticket sales. Both Bay of Pigs and Magnitude are expanding in new and different ways with each party adding special features. Online tickets now available.

HW Header

According to Demetri Moshoyannis, Executive Director, "Up Your Alley is our more intimate warm-up weekend for the season. Like last year, we will present Hog Wild as a gear night at SF Eagle with tickets available only at the door. The 10TH Bay of Pigs will be celebrating in style with amazing DJ talent in Wayne G. and Philip Grasso. And, the upstairs space at Factory will be open as well. We were just told that Bay of Pigs will be the VERY LAST event ever to be held at the Factory space. Finally, we have added ROUGH as the new Official Closing Party with powerhouse DJs Russ Rich and Paul Goodyear at Mezzanine. If you haven't been to Mezzanine lately, the upgraded sound and lighting systems are an essential experience."

BoP Header

Rough Header

Demetri added, "For the 20TH Magnitude, we are blowing things up completely! This year, the party will take place in The Midway, an already legendary space. Epic DJs Chus & Cabellos from Spain will be throwing down an insane mix with supporting sets from circuit legend Joe Gauthreaux and Citizen Jane out of Miami. The festival-style lighting and stage shows will be unlike anything we've ever presented. The infamous dungeon will be expanded to accommodate even more of our attendees. Jack Chang and Paul Goodyear will spin in the Legacy Room, paying a musical homage to the last 20 years of the event." More information about the event is available HERE.

Mag Header

Demetri concluded, "For the 7th year, Folsom Street Fair ends its week of naughty festivities with the official closing event, DEVIANTS: Adult Arcade, starting Sunday at 6pm sharp. Continuing the open-air vibes of Folsom, the party starts directly after the fair with a DJ stage on Stevenson Street behind Mezzanine. Advanced tickets are advised, as our veritable explosion of freak décor and public perversion guarantees a sell out event every year. Exhibiting a sharp underground musical taste, 2016's edition marks the Bay Area debut of Tuff City Kids, a supergroup formed by German electronic music legends Lauer and Gerd Janson. Dancing therapy will also be in the hands of the Honey Soundsystem DJs and Roi Perez (Tel Aviv). Gear, fetish, and/or drag are encouraged."

FOLSOM STREET EVENTS PREPARES NEW VISION FOR WOMEN, GENDER, AND TRANS INCLUSIVE SPACE AT FAIR

The space historically known as Venus’ Playground prepares for overhaul with significant community input

In recognition of the great value of a women, gender, and trans-inclusive space to the leather/fetish community, the Board of Directors of Folsom Street Events is committing itself to involving the community in the redevelopment of the space at the Folsom Street Fair that has been known as Venus’ Playground.

A Community Advisory Committee (CAC), made up of individuals with diverse gender identities who represent different organizations and communities within the broader leather/fetish community, has been formed to advise the Board on the purpose for the space, as well as expected behavior guidelines. Both the overarching purpose and the behavior guidelines will be shared at Up Your Alley on Sunday, July 31ST, and feedback is sought from the larger community regarding the new vision, as well as to suggest a new name for the space.

Board President Edwin Morales, Jr. stated, “The safety and respect of all members and friends of our community is an integral part of who we are at Folsom Street Events. This year, we have made it a priority to learn from the open and honest feedback we heard from members of our community. Education on gender and trans-competency as well as harm reduction is a focus of the Board this year. We will educate our volunteers about these issues during their training to ensure that Folsom Street Fair is a safe, welcoming, and fun time for all.”

Demetri Moshoyannis, Executive Director, added, “We are both grateful and excited to use last year’s experiences as a learning opportunity and as a chance to re-envision the area. The community support for our process has been extremely affirming, and we look forward to working with the CAC and the community in implementing creative changes.”
